Spotify Lite ported for use as standalone app on Wear OS

Spotify is undoubtedly one of the most popular music streaming services on any platform, including Android. They released their first earnings report just two months ago, where they stated that the service crossed 75 million paid users. Spotify’s Wear OS application has been available for a while, but it has some limitations. Currently, it can only control what’s playing on your phone. So, it’s more of a remote than a standalone app. Sure, you can pause, skip, and play tracks, you can also adjust the volume, but everything happens on your phone, which must be connected to the wearable device via Bluetooth. You could just sideload an APK file of a regular Spotify app on your watch, but it’s not designed for small wearable devices.

Recognized Developer at XDA forums, moneytoo, decided to fix this problem. He modified the Spotify Lite app so that it’s almost fully compatible for Wear OS devices. He basically took the official Spotify Lite APK and divided all the drawable files sizes by two. He also centered the bottom player controls’ layout so it’s centered instead of filling the width of the device. Then he fixed some little things like the height of actionBarSize and more.

As you can see, the modified version of the Spotify Lite is clearly much better than the official one. After installing the modded APK, you’ll have an ability to listen to your favorite songs directly on your Wear OS device while maintaining a somewhat compatible design. At least you won’t need to use a microscope to tap on the buttons.

The developer mentioned that the same method can be used on basically any application. He’s currently working on a script that will automatically do all the stuff I mentioned above to any APK file. This means that you’ll be able to use basically any application on your smartwatch. We’ll make sure to let you know when the script becomes available.
