Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 gets unofficial Android P port

The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 arrived in the Indian market with the intention to dethrone the Xiaomi Redmi Note series from the top spot in the budget segment. With a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, a 5.99″ 18:9 LCD display, dual rear cameras, a combined three slot tray for dual SIMs and a microSD card, a 5,000 mAh battery, and stock Android 8.1 out of the box, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 gives very tough competition to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and even exceeds it in certain areas.

If you're willing to be a bit adventurous with your new Zenfone Max Pro M1, you can now also try out an unofficial Android P Developer Preview 3 port. Be warned that this build will have some bugs because of its beta nature, so install it on your device only if you fully understand what you are getting into. According to the thread linked below, the following basic hardware is working:

  • RIL
  • Dual 4G
  • Audio
  • Wi-Fi
  • Hotspot
  • VoLTE
  • All other basic functions

There are some bugs noted in the thread, so do give the thread a thorough read before flashing the ROM.

Note: This article was originally published on July 21st. However, several users pointed out to us that the initial build we linked wasn't working on the device, so we pulled the article. Now, a working port of Android P has been posted for the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 so we have re-published this article.
