Architectural photography app SKRWT has now made its way on to Android. The app is famous for its perspective correction techniques which aids photographers in capturing images of buildings that do not have parallel lines converging outside of the photograph. You can read more about SKRWT here.
Rumors had it that Qualcomm would come to Samsung for the fabrication of their new Snapdragon 820 chipset. At launch, the announcement of a 14nm build narrowed it down to just a couple alternatives.
Today, we learned that the Snapdragon 820 will, in fact, be built by Samsung. While it was likely this would be the case after learning the process specification, we now have official confirmation that it won’t be GlobalFoundries’s 14nm yield to make it into the big-name flagships of 2016. This is big news for two reasons: one, it confirms that the 820 will use Samsung’s class-leading fabrication process; and two, it could mean that the 820 will have few issues and, perhaps, even make it to Samsung flagships.
Keep in mind that the Snapdragon 820 using Samsung’s fabrication process does not guarantee that the chipset will find its way to Samsung flagships (and this is not the first time it’s happened either). Recent benchmark leaks have suggested it would, but we must not get excited just yet (as much as we want AOSP ROMs on Samsung hardware). That being said, the 820 using the same 14nm LPP process found in the newer Exynos will likely result in a more competitive chipset race this year. In 2015, the Snapdragon 810 not only suffered throttling issues, but the A57 cores on the 810 had relatively high power consumption and did so especially on 20nm nodes, which was one of the reasons why sustained performance took a hit and A53 cores had to be used so often.
Console and PC based military simulator, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising has now made its way to NVIDIA SHIELD devices (Android TV, Portable and Tablet) via the GeForce NOW menu within the SHIELD Hub. This game is a free addition to GeForce NOW, but the on-demand game streaming service is membership based, costing $7.99 per month after the first three free months.
As Samsung introduces their Theme Store to more and more devices, we’re now seeing them release themes that are exclusive to certain ones. If you have a 2016 Samsung Galaxy A smartphone (A3 or A5 as of right now), then you get access to 11 exclusive themes for your smartphone. Themes range from colorful to minimalistic, and you still get access to the other themes in the store.
This week, we saw LG post an image on their Facebook page with the text “Find Your Own Style”. Then right under it, we see device names for the LG K4, LG K5, LG K7, LG K8 and LG K10. So far, the company has only officially announced the LG K7 and the LG K10, but it seems like they are planning 3 more devices too.
The first Redmi Note 3 was announced by Xiaomi in November of last year and it came with a MediaTek SoC. Now that Xiaomi has signed a deal with Qualcomm, we are now seeing the company announce a Snapdragon variant. The device has an upgraded rear camera, a slightly bigger battery, and the Snapdragon 650 SoC with its Adreno 510 GPU for a ¥999 (151 USD) price on the 2GB model.
The ASUS Live is a colorful new smartphone series that has been launched for Brazilian customers. The device includes a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek’s MT6580 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage, microSD card slot, Android 5.1 installed by default and a 2,070mAh capacity battery. There’s an 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera and will be available in blue, magenta and yellow variants.
Motorola has released the 2015 Moto G back in July and the company released the Lollipop source code for it one month later. Now that it has received the Marshmallow update, developers have been asking for the kernel source code and now it is available. Xiaomi’s latest budget device, the Redmi 3, has now received its own place in the XDA forums! As a bonus, the Redmi 2 has also been given its full sub forum. Hopefully, this gives a lot of Xiaomi users a common place to come and interact with other device users!
