What IAP’s Do You Tolerate and What Do You Not?

One of the best forms of earning revenue from apps and games, and perhaps one of the more controversial means, is via In App Purchases. Most popular apps and games have adopted the freemium IAP model rather than opt for a completely paid application. There’s no denying that IAP’s work, and they are here to stay.

That being said, not all apps and games employ IAP’s in the same way. Some adopt a more ethical and leisure-driven model towards Pay-to-Win. Others resort to frustrating the end user into purchasing them. While even more resort to giving features exclusive to IAP customers.

We ask you, what IAP’s do you tolerate? Which of your favorite apps and games have got it right? And which have done it totally wrong?

Huawei Shipped Over 12 Million Smartphones in January

Huawei sent out a press release to announce that they had shipped over 10 million units of their Huawei P8 Lite smartphone. They also tell us their their entire P8 series had reached more than 16 million people worldwide. However, I think the biggest nugget of information in this press release is that they have shipped out over 12 million smartphones in January alone(a 93% increase from Jan 2015).

Samsung Brings the 2016 Galaxy A5 and A7 to India

Samsung has officially launched the 2016 Galaxy A5 and 2016 Galaxy A7 in India. For those unfamiliar with these devices, you can find the full spec sheet of these devices here. The 2016 Galaxy A5 will cost Rs. 29,400 in India while the 2016 Galaxy A7 will cost Rs. 33,400. Both of these will be available for purchase on February 15th, exclusively from Snapdeal.

Sony’s Xperia M4 Aqua will be Updated Directly to Marshmallow

A Sony customer recently asked if the Xperia M4 Aqua would be updated to Android 5.1 because the device has yet to receive this update. A Sony representative responded via Twitter and confirmed it would not receive this update. Thankfully though, they also confirmed that it would be updated directly to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There are no ETAs for this update at this time though.

Benchmark Entry Suggests the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.7″ Display

It’s been confirmed that the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 1080p display, but we’ve only seem rumors about the display size being 5.2 inches. A recent GFXBench entry shows the alleged Mi 5 being tested with a 5.7″ display. This device tested also shows the Snapdragon 820, 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

Toward the end of last month we saw OnePlus make this same announcement for US buyers and today they have brought it to India. Starting on February 5th, if you live in India and you want to purchase the OnePlus X then you don’t have to acquire an invite in order to do so. You’ll also get free shipping with your order as well.
